Trackpac will use Helium’s decentralised network

Asset tracking firm Trackpac has announced that it will use decentralised network Helium for connectivity.

Helium, which calls itself “The People’s Network”, is a rapidly-growing wireless network run by individuals around the world. By deploying a hotspot, individuals can provide connectivity for IoT and/or mobile devices and be rewarded with HNT tokens.

Trackpac enables assets to be tracked using a small tracker which can be attached to keys, bags, laptops, bags,...

‘Metaverse’ is a contender for Oxford’s Word of the Year

“Metaverse” is among the leading three contenders for Oxford’s Word of the Year (WotY).

The metaverse is an unsurprising inclusion for WotY—not everyone understands it, but most will have at least heard the term.

Facebook changing its company name to Meta towards the end of 2021 undoubtedly led to increased awareness of the metaverse. Over the last year, the word has been thrown around a little too easily.

There is still some confusion around what...

Bosch turns to Fetch.ai’s Collective Learning network for ‘AIoT’ trials

Engineering giant Bosch is turning to Cambridge-based startup Fetch.ai for innovative “AIoT” trials.

Fetch.ai is a blockchain (or distributed ledger, if you prefer) that is aiming to build a decentralised network of autonomous “agents” that perform real-world tasks. For the IoT, it’s potentially groundbreaking.

Bosch also seems to believe in Fetch.ai’s vision and has been an early supporter of the startup from almost the beginning. This week, Bosch’s team...

Kerlink IoT gateways support Helium’s peer-to-peer LoRaWAN network and crypto mining

Kerlink has announced three of its IoT gateways now support Helium’s peer-to-peer LoRaWAN network and the mining of its native cryptocurrency.

The IoT gateways – the indoor Wirnet iFemtoCell and Wirnet iFemtoCell-evolution, and the outdoor Wirnet iStation – now support “The People’s Network”, a global, distributed network launched by Helium which provides long-range and low-power wireless coverage for LoRaWAN-enabled IoT sensors and devices.

Frankfurt Airport is using IOTA to verify COVID-19 test results

Frankfurt Airport is using the IOTA DAG (Direct Acyclic Graph) to securely and privately verify the COVID-19 results of passengers.

COVID-19 is set to continue causing disruptions to our lives for the best part of this year, or potentially longer. Fortunately, technologies are emerging which are hastening the return to some form of normality.

Spending long periods under “stay-at-home” restrictions has many people craving for some extended time outside their four...

TM Forum explores using IOTA for trusted Industry 4.0 solutions

Telecoms industry association TM Forum has announced it's exploring the use of IOTA for trusted next-generation IIoT solutions.

IOTA is often mistakenly called a blockchain. The core purpose is similar, it's essentially a trusted ledger, but one which uses a DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) structure called the Tangle in a bid to offer the scalability required for large IoT deployments.

TM Forum has launched Mega Catalyst, a project which aims to build a "completely trusted...
