AT&T has become the preferred network partner for Biotricity’s biometric remote monitoring solutions, the healthcare technology provider has announced.

At present, AT&T is supporting a pilot of the solution. The development will see the telecommunications giant supporting Biotricity’s wearable medical devices with near real-time connectivity for data transmission. Connectivity will be initiated following the rollout of Biotricity’s flagship product, the Bioflux solution, which is expected to launch by the end of 2016.

Biotricity founder and CEO Waqaas Al-Siddiq said: “For medical device manufacturers to successfully enter and establish themselves in the new connected healthcare industry, it is imperative that they look beyond traditional forms of technological innovation. IoT, for example, would be an avenue for consideration and medical device manufacturers are uniquely positioned to be successful in this market, as they have a profound understanding of the regulatory process, critical applications, and patient risk.

“As we prepare to commercialise our first medical solution, we understand the importance of integrating IoT into next generation devices within the regulatory environment, as we believe there will be a true market advantage,” Al-Siddiq added.

IDC projects that the value of the worldwide IoT market will nearly triple to $1.7 trillion by 2020, revealing the importance of the impact of the industry the healthcare industry, and specifically medical devices which can provide relevant near real-time feedback to engage healthcare professionals in a timely manner. The integration of IoT and medical technology is set to be increasingly important as medical device manufacturers, healthcare practitioners, and enthusiasts continue to foster adoption of such break-through applications.
