M2M retail sector analysed in latest industry research

A report from Research and Markets has assessed the retail sector for machine to machine (M2M) communications and argues the market for wirelessly connected point of sale (POS) and multi-space parking meters are among the most advanced aspects in the space.

According to Berg Insight, the number of cellular M2M connections in the retail industry will rise to 44.3 million by 2019, up from 23.1 million in 2014 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.9%.

Broadcom launches IoT-focused global navigation chip

In order to cater to the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable devices markets, semiconductor solutions company Broadcom has launched a new Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) chip, known as Broadcom BCM47748. The chip ensures devices such as fitness bands provide pinpoint location.

IoT gains attention from public and private sectors – but the hype may be excessive

According to new research from CompTIA, 80% of IT industry executives have made an effort to recognise prospects brought forward by the Internet of Things (IoT), while a third expect these technologies to boost productivity in the next 24-36 months.
